HOW TO USE THE NEW SOUND BLASTER AWE32 DRIVER
Problem:
Using the SB AWE32 sound card with KA programs that don't have it as a
setup choice may result in no music or a lock up on some notes. At the
very least it will eliminate the need for the AWE32 owner to run the
General MIDI TSR program (to free up memory) and use a native mode
driver.
Solution:
You need the correct music driver, SBAWE32.DRV which is on this disk
and copied to your hard drive via "Copy new Sound Blaster AWE32 Driver
to Hard Drive" option.
How to set it up will depend on the individual program.
Step 1: Re-install the program and choose Roland as the sound card
choice. This will copy the correct music files. If there is not a
Roland choice then that program does not have Wave Table (General
MIDI) music available and you should keep it installed as Sound
Blaster and Compatibles for FM music.
Step 2: Copy the SBAWE32.DRV file into the program's root directory.
Example: if you have AMERICA ADVENTURE and using the default directory,
copy the driver into the C:\AMERICA directory. You can do this one of
two ways. You can use the install routine on this disk by typing
9 C:\AMERICA, or you can manually copy it by typing
COPY SBAWE32.DRV C:\AMERICA. Remember to substitute the correct name
of the directory if you don't have AMERICA ADVENTURE.
Step 3: At the DOS prompt type SET then enter. Look for the BLASTER=
line and write it down. Example: BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
this is the default setting for AWE32.
Step 4: You need to edit the KA.CNF file for the program. Switch to
the program directory, i.e. type CD\AMERICA then type EDIT KA.CNF.
The MusicDevParams line needs to have no setting, if it has one, such
as A330, then remove the setting. The SoundDevParams line needs the
settings for the sound card. Put the first 3 settings from BLASTER=
line. Example: SoundDevParams : A220 I5 D1
If there is a MusicDriver line, change it to point to the SBAWE32.DRV
driver in program directory, i.e.
MusicDriver : C:\AMERICA\SBAWE32.DRV
If there is a SoundDriver line, change it to point to the SBPDIG.DRV
driver on the CD, i.e.
SoundDriver : D:\AMERICA\DRIVERS\SBPDIG.DRV
If you have Undersea Adventure, DRIVERS is under the MAIN directory.
Save the changes to the KA.CNF and exit the editor.
Step 5: If you had the MusicDriver and SoundDriver lines you are
done, try the program. If you didn't have those lines do the
following:
In the program directory, i.e. C:\AMERICA there should be a MUSIC.DRV
file and possibly a SOUND.DRV file. Delete the MUSIC.DRV file and
rename the SBAWE32.DRV to MUSIC.DRV.
Switch to the DRIVERS directory on the CD-ROM (or the
C:\AMERICA\DRIVERS directory if using one of our disk programs) and
copy the SBPDIG.DRV file to the program directory on the hard drive.
Then rename it to SOUND.DRV, replacing the current one if it is there.
Example: COPY D:\AMERICA\DRIVERS\SBPDIG.DRV C:\AMERICA\SOUND.DRV
